Jennifer Lawrence Explains Her Joke About Kim Basinger Dying
Lawrence made an appearance at a press conference to promote the 2008 movieThe Burning Plain, in which she co-starred with Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger. The absence of Basinger from the conference led a reporter to inquire as to her whereabouts.
“Kim Basinger wasn’t there, and we were doing an international press conference,” Lawrence told Fallon. “So somebody said, ‘Where is Kim Basinger?’ And I just leaned into the microphone and was like, ‘You didn’t hear? Kim died.”
The reaction, as Lawrence remembered it, seemed priceless:
“And then I got ripped off the stage, thrown into media training, which was hilarious because I was like Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady,” Lawrence said. “Obviously, it didn’t take.”
Lawrence remained endearing in these late-night interviews, even when talking about a co-star possibly being dead.
