August is looking to be a busy month with game releases fast filling up as we head into fall. There is a mix of adventure, side-scrollers and expansions all heading to multiple platforms this month. So no matter your gaming platform preference, there’s something for everyone this August 2018.

It’s been a bumpy ride forWe Happy Fewwith some confusion with their beta, delays and complications with the Classification Review Board with approval for release in Australia. But with all that behind them, the official launch of the game is coming this August. Although not strictly an RPG, We Happy Few will take you on an action-adventure that is weird yet wonderful.

The survival adventure game takes place in the alternate universe in 1960s England, in a world where the outcome of World War II took a drastically different turn causing a terrible sequence of events. The story follows main protagonist Arthur who’s role is working in the sensor department. Arthur’s life turns upside after he stops taking his “joy”, a chemically induced drug that leaves everyone in happy sedated state.

We Happy Few is set to release on August 10th on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Dead Cells is a rogue-lite Castlevania-inspired action-platformer which allows you to explore, fight and progress in a metroidvania world. Featuring 2D action, non-linear progression, souls-lite combat and an ever changing world of secret rooms, hidden passages and more.

Players will get to explore interconnected worlds, with the replayability of rogue-lite and face the challenge of perma-death. In this game your skills as a player is what matters, as you delve deeper into the world you learn to improve your skillset with unforgiving combat with a range of 50 weapons or more to do it with.

4. Death’s Gambit

Death’s Gambit is a side-scrollingaction-adventure, a retro 2D platformer with richRPGelements. Players will be able to explore a mysterious and unforgiving world to find the true price of immortality as they embrace the challenge being an agent of Death.

The game sets to feature larger than life bosses, each with their own legend, skill and require unique strategies in order to defeat. Enjoy a range of customisation with over 10 weapon types which include bows, scythes, longswords, halberds and more. With 30 weapon abilities and spells to master you will be able to create your own builds to suit your play-style.

3. Monster Hunter World

Capcom have been rather successful in thisaction RPGMonster Hunter World, releasing the console version earlier this year. Originally released on PS4 and Xbox One on January 26th, 2018. The massively successful title hasalready shipped over eight million copies worldwideand will be joining the PC platform onAugust 9th 2018.

As a hunter, you’ll take on quests to hunt monsters in a variety of habitats. Take down these monsters and receive materials that you can use to create stronger weapons and armor in order to hunt even more dangerous monsters.

Players will take on the role of of a hunter, who are apart of the Fifth Fleet who are summoned by the Research Commission to support the New World. Part of the Expedition focuses on the study of Elder Dragons, powerful beasts that can even affect entire ecosystems. As they take on these monsters, players will choose from a variety of weapons which come from fourteen different archetypes which will determine their combat moves and abilities. Gain rewards from completing quests, gain loot or gather materials in order to craft improved weapons.

Monster Hunter Worldis currently available to play Xbox One and PS4 and will be coming to PC on August 9th 2018.

2. World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth

Platform: PC, Mac

Developer: Blizzard Entertainment

One of the longest running MMORPGs, World of Warcraft is getting it’s next expansion Battle for Azeroth this August 14th. Battle for Azeroth takes place after the events of Legion, as growing conflicts rise between the Alliance and the Horde. The latest expansion brings an array of content and changes. The expansion features two fabled kingdoms, for the horde side the Zandalar empire and for Alliance the Kul Tiras. Players will be able to recruit new allied races dependent on faction, for the Horde side Highmountain Taurens, Nightborne Elves and Mag’Har Orcs. For the Alliance side Lightforged Draenei, Void Elves and Dark Iron Dwarves.

Not only increasing the level cap from 110 to 120, but new balances to classes and new Azerite Power system will be implemented. Those who pre-order will already be able to access some of the pre-patch content as we count-down to the arrival of the expansion.

World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth releases on August 14th on PC and Mac.

1. Divinity: Original Sin 2

Platform: Console release - PS4/Xbox One

The award winning party-based RPG sequel,Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitivewill be coming to console this August 31st releasing on Playstation 4 and Xbox One. The title developed byLarian Studiosfeatures a single and multiplayer top-down that brings the feel of pen & paper roleplaying games but with new levels of freedom. Featuring turn-based combat, systematic gameplay accompanied by a compelling narrative.

TheDefinitive Editionis a revamped version of the game which sets to bring a host of improvements not only graphics-wise, this includes a new mode called Story Mode, an easier difficulty than the previous Explorer mode which can be changed freely throughout the campaign. Further additions include performance improvements, balance changes, musical scores and a new character called The Squirrel Knight available with pre-order.

Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition will be releasing on Xbox One and PS4 on August 31st, 2018. While PC players will already able to switch between versions. Those who already ownDivinity Original Sin 2base game on PC will receive the Definitive Edition as a free upgrade.
