Fortniteis much more than a battle royale nowadays, with additional modes being added frequently by Epic Games, other game developers and the fan community. It also added a superior No Build mode that makes the game more accessible to audiences opposed to the building mechanic.

Fortnite: Top 10 Marvel Skins

Fortnite is continuously adding new Marvel characters such as Black Cat and Sabertooth. This raises a question: which one is best?

In the current age of Fortnite, we can play a rhythm game by the developer of Rock Band, Harmonix, race around in fast cars and revisit past seasons of the battle royale in Fortnite OG. You can even play as Fall Guys in a variety of user-created content. Here are the best Fortnite modes, ranked.

8Save The World

The one that started it all,Save the World, was the default mode in Fortnite before Battle Royale took over the roost. Working together with friends, you’re building a fort to stop zombies from obstructing an objective. You’re building traps, doors, etc to make your defenses as best as they can.

Before the action begins, however, you’ll need to gather enough materials and find weapons around the level to fully prepare yourself for the waves of zombies that will come your way. There’s plenty of strategy to be had with your friends, and trust us, you don’t want to start a round without having enough resources at your disposal. The mode is fun but is repetitive, leading to this being higher on the list.

Fortnite Save the World was the first mode

After many years of development, Fortnite launched in 2017 as a multiplayer co-op game before getting a Battle Royale mode and attracting millions to the title.

7Rocket Racing

A surprising entry on this list is Rocket Racing, which flipped the script on what Fortnite could be for many. Instead of a battle royale, we could be racing at top speed in the cars from Rocket League. The tracks are exciting, drifting feels smooth, and cranking that turbo is satisfying.

You need a certain level of skill to be successful in Rocket Racing. You’ll need to figure out the perfect jumps for shortcuts, you can go down multiple paths to suit your tastes and the cars can also be customized to your liking.

6Fortnite Reload

Fortnite Reloadis a more fast-paced version of what the regular Battle Royale mode offers. On a smaller map, you’ll be trying to survive with three lives, and once they get taken out, you’re eliminated.

There’s a different range of weapons you can use in the Reload mode as opposed to the Battle Royale, giving you a different experience. For those who want to get into a fight fast, Reload is the way to go. You also gain different quests to complete for XP. Annoyingly, this mode is squads-only, and while you can play this solo, it’s highly recommended not to.

5Fortnite OG

Those who miss the old days of Fortnite can check out the OG mode. Available in both the regular and Zero build modes, Fortnite OG offers old maps and weapons into the mix from past seasons, letting us relive the past. It also allows us to play an alternative to the Battle Royale mode if we don’t like the current season. For example, the thieves' set up in Chapter 6 Season 2 has been boring in comparison to the past.

Past locations return in Fortnite OG. For Chapter 1 Season 3, we can go back to Loot Lake, Flush Factory and Dusty Depot among other areas. It’s great to reminisce and take down foes in similar locations once more. The Guided Missile and Hand Cannon are also fun to use in Chapter 1 Season 3.

4Very Easy Fun Fall Guys Lobby

Creator-made islands are hit and miss in Fortnite, but the Very Easy Fun Fall Guys Lobby is one you shouldn’t skip. As a Fall Guy, you’re making your way up many platforms to reach the top. Along the way, you grab XP from every obstacle you overcome; this is a reward that will level you up a couple of times during the process.

The platforming challenges are thrilling and challenge you in some areas. You’ll need to be careful not to fall. Thankfully, there are regular checkpoints that will keep you in the action. It’s satisfying to reach the top of this level and there are higher difficulties available from the developer if you’re tough enough!

3LEGO Fortnite

LEGO Fortnite dropped in December 2023 and completely changed what Fortnite meant for many people. This fun take on the formula has you play as various Fortnite characters in LEGO form, creating a community (similar to Minecraft), and then setting off on quests for resources.

Once you have the items gathered from mining and collecting crops, you can make all sorts of items at the Crafting Table. You can create buildings like a Log Cabin, an Oven and a Lumber Mill among many other items in this newly formed world. LEGO Fortnite shows the potential of what the game can be. It can be just as big as Roblox, but without the ugly graphics.

2Fortnite Festival

While other Fortnite modes may have more replayability than Fortnite Festival, this is one of the best ways to play the game and with the characters you collect. Just like Rock Band, you come together to perform a song like Blur’s “Song 2” or U2’s “Beautiful Day” or “Can’t Feel My Face” by The Weeknd.

The symbols coordinate with the buttons of your controller as the beats scroll down the music bar, just like Rock Band or Guitar Hero. You wouldn’t think this would be fun, but as you get used to the controls, it becomes entertaining. The stage is also set with your characters, so you can see Goku jamming it out withThe Undertaker, Captain Hook andSabrina Carpenteron the stage. You can even use your own emotes if you’d like. There’s also a separate mode that lets you compete against other players.

1Zero Build - Battle Royale

This may be controversial to say, but building in Fortnite used to drive many up the wall, including the writer of this article. Many have mastered this mechanic, being ever so fast with creating structures. Others struggle to contend with this defensive move, previously leading them to drop Fortnite altogether. That’s until No Build was introduced, which is the best way to play the game. It streamlines the stellar gameplay, letting you drop from the battle bus, collect weapons and finish side missions without having to build a thing.

The Zero Build Battle Mode takes away the stress of building and having to deal with players who have an advantage over you. The default build mode is still there for those who love it, and to be honest, it’s a spectacle to watch others display their skills, but the Zero Build Battle Royale is the best mode in Fortnite, hands down. It’s also regularly updated with fun additions to the map. Remember when the Daily Bugle was added with multiple floors of the fictional news agency to explore? It’s neat.
