The Witcher 4has not only revealed the first showcase of the new title but also confirmed thatCiri will be the game’s protagonist, finally allowing the legendaryGeralt of Riviato rest.
This decision will bring not juststory changesbut alsoa different combat experience. In The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, a few segments allowed players to get a taste ofhow Ciri’s fighting style differsfrom Geralt’s, and the developers have confirmed that these same differences will be fully realized inThe Witcher 4.

Specifically,Pawel Burza, CD Projekt RED’s lead communications officer, explained in the company’sAnsweRED podcastthemain differencebetween Ciri and Geralt. The reveal trailer for The Witcher 4 shows Ciri performing asomersault, to which Burza commented:
“You don’t see Geralt doing these things… He’s agile, but in a way, he feels like a block. She [Ciri] is like liquid in comparison to him.”

Ciri’s Combat Style: More Fluid and Agile
At the same time,Sebastian Kalemba, the game’s director, added:
“She moves as if she was raised by wolves in Kaer Morhen… That comes from her personality, her stance, and those kinds of things.”
Burza further emphasized thephysical contrast between Ciri and Geralt, stating:

“She is smaller, which she can use to her advantage because she is more agile.”
Although we don’t yet havegameplay footageto confirm these statements, it makes sense that the combat approach would besignificantly differentin The Witcher 4, now thatCiri is the lead character. In the past, one of the few criticisms of the franchise has beenthe limitations of its gameplay, so this shift in protagonist might also bringa fresh perspective on combat, potentially makingfighting monsters and bandits feel even more satisfying.
