We are approaching the arrival ofThe Last of Uson HBO, and ahead of the TV show’s debut, it has been revealed that a companion podcast will also be launched. Better yet, the podcast will feature a voice that’s very familiar to those who’ve played the original video game.Troy Baker, the voiceover artist who plays the video game version of Pedro Pascal’s Joel, will reportedly host the new podcast alongside series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, offering a deep dive into each episode with a scene-by-scene analysis.
A release date hasn’t been announced for the companion podcast, though it’s likely to coincide with the debut of the TV series.The Last of Usis set to premiere on HBO on Jan. 15 following a lengthy, costly production. It’s also not the only involvement Baker has with the series, as he alsohas a role as a different character, and he has also teased an adaptation that will subvert expectations.

“I’ve seen up to episode five and, I can tell you right now, you get to episode three, you’re done,” he recently said on thePlay Watch Listenpodcast. “You are standing on your desk, ‘O, Captain! My Captain!’ What it sets up in the first two episodes, it introduces you to the world if you have no idea what it is. It takes all of your expectations and just gets rid of them.”

The Last of Us Takes Inspiration from the Video Games
The TV series features a story that’s similar to the video game, even if some changes will be made as Baker suggests. It takes inspiration from the original video game version ofThe Last of Usalong with its downloadable content chapter,The Last of Us: Left Behind.The show follows Pedro Pascal as Joel, a hardened smuggler hired to escort a teenage girl, Ellie (Bella Ramsey), across a treacherous wasteland in a post-apocalyptic United States. Murderous raiders and aggressive mutants called “Clickers” are some of the dangers that await the two on their journey.
The cast also includes Gabriel Luna as Joel’s brother Tommy, Anna Torv as Joel’s partner Tess, and Merle Dandridge reprising her role from the video game as Marlene, the head of a resistance movement known as the Fireflies. Troy Baker, Nico Parker, Storm Reid, Nick Offerman, Murray Bartlett, Jeffrey Pierce, and Melanie Lynskey are also featured.
