Rumors continue to surface that Sony is working on a new, more powerful version of the Playstation 4. Tentatively referred to as the PS4 4K, the new console will sit alongside the current model similar to past generations which featured a launch and slim model.
The PS4 4K will be designed for graphics heavy applications although games will work for both versions. Players interested in cutting edge power will now have the opportunity to upgrade their console for an improved gameplay experience in ultra high definition resolution, giving owners of the newer 4K TV’s something to think about when making their console buying decisions.

The Wall Street Journal reported an expected announcement prior to the release of the Playstation VR in Octobor so it’s possible we’ll get an official reveal this summer at E3. Teasing the horsepower of a new PS4 before the release of the virtual reality headset may assuage Playstation players worried that the Oculus Rift/PC setup would be significantly more powerful than the current PS4 paired with a VR set. Putting a PS4 4K with the VR could give the Playstation a setup that rivals the tech capabilities of the Oculus. Strictly PC only gamers may still be in luck as Sony has said they are considering plans to bring the VR headset to PC as well.
There is no rumored price yet for the 4K Playstation but we can of course anticipate it to be more expensive than the base PS4. An offering of both versions of the console side by side would give the average gamer more options, as many are early adopters of new tech.

No doubt that virtual reality is going to be all the rage at this year’s E3, so we will definitely be on the look out for more info to share as well as new titles that may receive VR support.
