Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, has announced that the company is already planning video games created with their newgenerative AI, ‘Muse,‘and believes it is revolutionary.

Microsoft Confirms Plans for AI-Generated Games

Last week, Microsoft introduced Muse, an innovative artificial intelligence model aimed at revolutionizing how video games are created and experienced. It deeply understands 3D environments, game physics, and player control interactions, allowing for coherent and varied gameplay generation.

Now, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has confirmed that the company is working on a series of video games that will use Muse, the company’s new generative AI technology.

Microsoft Plans To Create Games With Generative AI

In the presentation of Muse, Microsoft explained how the AI used data from the game Bleeding Edge (2020) by Ninja Theory to autonomously generate visual environments. In an interview with Dwarkesh Podcast, Satya Nadella compared the impact of Muse to the first time he experienced other generative AI models, such as ChatGPT. According to the executive, Microsoft already has plans to integrate this technology into several titles in its catalog.

“It’s truly amazing… We wanted to explore if, based on gameplay data, we could generate worlds that were consistent, diverse, and adaptable to player modifications. That’s what we’re achieving with this technology,” explained Nadella. “What excites me is bringing… soon we’ll have a catalog of games where we’ll begin using these models or train these models to generate content and then play with them.”

He also mentioned that his first encounter with Muse was through Phil Spencer, Xbox head, who showed him how the model could interpret Xbox controller inputs and generate coherent responses within the game. “It was an impressive moment, similar to when we first saw ChatGPT complete sentences or DALL·E generate images. It’s revolutionary.”

A few days ago, the controversial Elon Musk announced his intention to create “revolutionary” video games with AI, something that, based on these statements from Microsoft’s CEO, seems closer than ever. The use of generative AI in the video game industry has been generating debates and concerns for months, and Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick said recently that he believes this technology could create more jobs rather than reduce them, and will increase productivity.
