For weeks, developers have hinted at the return of a special mode that increases the game’s challenge, much like the first installment. Now, the Hardcore mode is confirmed, catering to players seeking the most demanding experience possible.
During the live stream, two members of Warhorse Studios explained how theHardcore difficultywill work when it arrives in a free update this spring. They described it as“a more challenging and immersive way to experience the game”with the following core features:
New Hardcore Mode Penalties for Henry
One of the most intriguing aspects of Hardcore mode is theability to customize the challenge levelby selecting uniquedisadvantagesfor Henry. Players mustchoose at least threeof these penalties, which will remain active throughout the entire playthrough.

Heavy-Footed
“You’ve always had a heavy step. Mom said it didn’t matter—everyone has their quirks. Fritz and Matthew always said you had a head full of air.”

Picky Eater
“You’d rather eat only your mother’s cooking. But she’s in a better place now, so you don’t eat much.”
“The tales of Henry of Skalitz’s misdeeds have spread. The law will be watching you closely.”
Punchable Face
“Look at you—piggy eyes, a nose like a button. Wouldn’t you want to punch that face? Others do too.”
“You struggle to talk to strangers, so you prefer to avoid it.”
Hangry Henry
“You’re always hungry. When you’re starving, all you can think about is food. You’re useless, don’t want to talk to anyone, and just want to eat.”
Somnambulant
“They say you spend half your life sleeping. That’s good. Maybe the other half isn’t so bad either.”
“How can I put this? You’re not the sharpest quill in the inkwell. People will have to explain things to you at least twice.”
“Every back has a limit to how many times it can bend. Yours has already exceeded it.”
With these new Hardcore mechanics combined with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s already demanding realism, this mode will push players to their limits, making for adeeply immersive medieval RPG experience.
