And that physique is going to look great in cosmic spandex.
Some fans have questionedRonda Rousey’s acting ability, but Hollywood sure hasn’t. In the past two years, she has appeared in some high profile blockbusters starting with a co-starring role in last year’s hit sequelThe Expendables 3. This past summer, she appeared as her self inEntourage, and she was part of the ensembleFurious 7cast. On the horizon, she will play herself in the biopicMy Fight/Your Fight. She also has the action thrillerMile 22coming in 2016. And she will take over thePatrick Swayzerole in a remake ofRoad House. But getting to take on a Marvel superhero would be the crown jewel in this ass-kicker’s cinematic resume. About starring oppositeMark WahlberginMile 22and possibly taking on Captain Marvel, the actress had this to say.
“I’m really looking forward to doing my first starring role opposite Mark Wahlberg. Hopefully by the time Captain Marvel comes around, I will have enough experience and skills in the field for them to really seriously consider me.”
While promoting theBlu-rayandDVDrelease ofAvengers: Age of Ultrona few weeks ago,Kevin Feigeheld a Q&A session, where he spoke about a number ofMarvelprojects. After the Q&A, the producer andMarvelStudios President spoke withIGN, where he was asked about UFC women’s championRonda Rouseybeing interested in playingCaptain Marvel. When asked what he thinks about her love for the character,Kevin Feigehad this to say.
“I love it. That happens occasionally, and I think that’s a testament more to the strength of the characters. Going back to my early days atMarvel, there were always various people campaigning to beWolverine. I guess that was pre-Twitter and pre-Internet days, but still for some reason would pop up in Wizard Magazine. Wizard Magazine would always have ‘this person wants to play this role!’ It’s a testament to how great the characters are that it appeals to such a wide range of talented, talented people.”
Captain Marvelis set for release on July 13, 2025, so we still have more than three years beforeMarvel’s first female-lead superhero movie hits theaters. While a director hasn’t come on board yet, the studio has setNicole PerlmanandMeg LeFauveto write the script.
