Here’s the complete list of all the fonts that are available in macOS Catalina 10.15 or newer, including your preinstalled fonts, document fonts and fonts that can be manually downloaded.

Pre-installed fonts

macOS Catalina installs and enables by default the following fonts which are always available in the macOS font picker, ready to be used in any of the documents you create in Mac apps:

Again, the above fonts are enabled automatically by macOS Catalina.

Document fonts

Unlike preinstalled fonts which are always accessible, some document fonts may be hidden unless you open a document which uses that particle font, in which case it becomes visible in the macOS font picker. Otherwise, it’s nowhere to be seen. They exist to ensure consistency of Apple apps and documents across macOS versions, languages and scripts.

The following fonts are available for document support in macOS Catalina:

As mentioned earlier in this guide, the document fonts in macOS Catalina are available only in documents that already use the font or in apps that request the font by name.

Downloadable fonts

Downloadable fonts can be grabbed from the Internet, installed and activated through Font Book, which makes them available to use in documents that you create in various apps.

The following fonts are not auto-installed and must be downloaded manually:

The downloadable macOS Catalina fonts are dimmed in the menus and Apple’s Font Book app unless you manually download them.

To download and enable any of these fonts, launch Font Book from your Mac’s Applications folder, then click All Fonts in the sidebar find the font that you want to download by typing the first few characters of its name in Font Book’s search field.

Now click the desired dimmed font and hit theDownload buttonor choose the same option from the Edit menu or Control-click the font and choose Download from the menu.

Install location for Mac fonts

The macOS Catalina fonts are installed in the following folders on your Mac:

Adding fonts to macOS Catalina

Aside from preinstalled fonts and ones available for download or as needed by your document/app, new or updated fonts may be added over time to the Mac operating system.
