However, while fans are heapingwell-deserved praise upon the Toho film, there are many onX(formerly Twitter) that have taken issue withGodzilla Minus One’sEnglish-dubbed version thatchanges the delivery of an all-important lineat the end of the movie. It comes when Shikishima learns that the love of his life, Noriko, is still alive, and the pair reunitein an emotional scenethat sees Noriko ask him in the Japanese version,“Is your war finally over?”The question is both referring to Shikishima’s literal war with Godzilla, but more subtly it’s also about the personal warthat has raged within him over the course of the film.

In the English-dubbed version ofGodzilla Minus One, thewords get lost in translation, and instead see Noriko ask in English in that same scene,“Can this war of yours finally be done?”The tone with which it’s delivered makes it sound like Noriko is more annoyed with Shikishima than anything, instead of asking a heartfelt questionthat’s meant to elicit an emotional response.

More users piled onto agree with the sentiment, with one calling it their “biggest complaint,” and another saying the dubbed version is much “weaker” than the Japanese original.
