The writers' strike is finally over, which means that many projects that were on hold can get back on track. Among them isFast & Furious 11, the next film in theFast & Furiousuniverse, which is currently set to hit theaters in April 2025. In May,Fast Xwas released, the most recent entry in the saga starring Vin Diesel, introducing the new great villain of the story. Jason Momoa joined theFast & Furiousfamily as Dante Reyes, son of the mafia boss who Dominic Toretto and his team defeated in 2011’sFast Fiveby teaming up with Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs.
However, neither Dom nor the powerful character played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson managed to defeat Dante, and they will have to continue fighting him in the next installment. Which could be the definitive outcome of the story that began in 2001.
With little time available to start filming for the next movie and to ensure it will be ready set release date,Varietyreveals that Universal Studios is demanding a new draft of the script forFast & Furious 11as soon as possible. It is not known if this new version would simply have corrections from the previous one, or if it will be a complete rewriting of the story.
Back in April it was confirmed that Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) and Oren Uziel (The Cloverfield Paradox) were chosen to write the script for the film, which will once again be directed by Louis Leterrier.

What Does The Rock’s Return Mean for Fast & Furious?
Dwayne Johnson made his debut in the franchise inFast Five,playing Special Agent Hobbs, who was on a mission to capture Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Conner, who were on the run in Brazil. But Hobbs ends up working alongside those he had to catch to defeat Hernán Reyes, a powerful gangster who terrorized the streets of the South American country.
It is in fact Hobbs himself who kills Reyes, and that is why his son Dante seeks revenge on him as well as Dom and his family. Johnson returns later inFast & Furious 6,Furious 7andThe Fate of the Furious, always working as an ally for the leading team. In 2019, he starred alongside Jason Statham in the franchise’s first official spinoff,Hobbs & Shaw. Although that film was going to start its own cinematic universe, with the two characters leading a new team that would also include Kevin Hart and Ryan Reynolds, the conflicts between Johnson and Diesel distanced the former fighter from the saga.UntilFast X.
At the end of the last installment, Hobbs returns,being threatened by Reyesand suggesting that the character will play a key part in the outcome of the whole story. But that’s not all. After the release ofFast X, The Rock confirmed that his character would star in another movie within theFast & Furiousuniverse, which will show the path traveled by Hobbs since the last time fans saw him and leading up to his scene inFast X.
Fast & Furious 11 is currently scheduled to be released on August 10, 2025.
