As the new year creeps closer, streaming services are gearing up with their latest movie offerings for January, andMaxis no different. The platform has a myriad of films slated for release next month that are sure to entertain a majority of audiences. From political thrillers, horror, and dramas to a duo of documentaries about fierce women who blazed a trail within their respective industries, Max’s film selections are no doubt worth a gander.

While some of the films opened to mixed reviews and poor box office performances, they still offeredincredible performancesworth watching. As the upcoming month quickly approaches, viewers will surely want to check out Max’s streaming platform.

Though it may not be the verybest political thriller,The Ides of Marchis an enjoyable watch following a presidential candidate’s idealistic press secretary, Stephen Meyers (Ryan Gosling), and his faith in the integrity of his candidate, a charming governor named Mike Morris (Clooney). After Mike’s relationship with a young intern, Molly (Evan Rachel Wood), is discovered, Stephen is forced to question what he thought he knew.

Because of his illicit affair, a series of events begin to transpire that ultimately threaten Mike’s election chances, as well as Stephen’s hope for a candidate better than the rest. Co-written and directed by George Clooney, the film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay but failed to win the Oscar.

It Comes at Night

Described as a psychological horror film,It Comes At Nightcenters around Paul (Joel Edgerton), his wife Sarah (Carmen Ejogo), and their son Travis (Kelvin Harrison Jr.), who hide in a secludedcreepy location in the forestas the planet succumbs to a highly contagious disease. After their residence is broken into one night by a man named Will (Christopher Abbott), who is searching for water for his wife Kim (Riley Keough), Sarah suggests they take them in. Now living out the apocalypse together, they quickly realize a more sinister threat might be brewing from within. Written and directed by Trey Edward Shults, the film was a critical success upon its release in 2017.

Directed by John Hillcoat, who also directedThe RoadandThe Proposition, this film evokes the same dramatic tone present in many of his movies.
