The secretly filmedEraserreboot,Eraser: Reborn, has now been given an official R rating, which the movie has achieved thanks to “violence throughout and language." The project, which was filmed very much under the radar during the summer of 2021 and will reboot the 90s action classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, has been directed byThe Quiet OnesandQuarantine 2: Terminalfilmmaker John Pogue.
While the confirmed R rating, news of which was revealed byFilmratings.com, suggests a similar approach to the material as its 1996 Schwarzenegger-starring predecessor,Eraser: Rebornwill undergo some changes when bringing the franchise back to life. Taking over from the Austrian Oak is British actor and star of such small-screen projects asShadowhunters: The Mortal InstrumentsandPenny Dreadful: City of Angels, Dominic Sherwood, who will portray a wholly new character, rather than rebooting Schwarzenegger’s U.S. Marshal John “Eraser” Kruger.

Instead, Sherwood will play U.S. Marshal Mason Pollard (in an unfortunate character name downgrade). Aside from the change in actor and name, however,Eraser: Reborn’sU.S. Marshal Pollard will follow a similar path to Schwarzenegger’s Kruger, with the reboot’s synopsis revealing that the film follows “US Marshall Mason Pollard (Sherwood) who specializes in engineering the fake deaths of witnesses that need to leave no trace of their existence.”
Eraser: Rebornwill see Dominic Sherwood starring alongside hisShadowhunters: The Mortal Instrumentsco-star Jacky Lai, with the pair joined by the likes of McKinley Belcher III (The Good Lord Bird), and Eddie Ramos (Animal Kingdom).Eraser: Rebornhas some serious B-movie pedigree behind it, with director Jon Pogue having written the likes ofU.S. Marshalsand directed such beloved examples of the genre asDeep Blue Sea 3.The Butterfly Effect 2andJarhead 3: The Siegewriter Michael D. Weiss meanwhile has penned the script for theEraserreboot.
