Leading up to the release ofThor: Love and Thunder,Chris Hemsworthshared many updates on his intense fitness and training regime that had him bulked up like never before to play the Norse god. However, the next time he plays Thor, Hemsworth won’t be getting quite as ripped as he did this time around. While this may disappoint some of his many fans, they needed worry because that doesn’t mean Thor will be completely returning to hisAvengers: Endgamedad-bod.

Thor: Love and Thundercaught up with the Odinson in the aftermath ofEndgame, which saw him take off with the Guardians of the Galaxy to have a number of adventures that happen prior toLove and Thunder.During this time, he sheds the extra pounds that he put on when he lost his Thor mojo after failing to prevent Thanos’ snap, and is back to his godlike physique.

Thor Love and Thunder Splits

In real-life, all of this could be said of Chris Hemsworth too. The actor worked out like never before to make himself themost toned, muscled and strong Thorthat has ever been seen on screen, but as he revealed in the newAssembledepisode focusing on the movie, he doesn’t want to go to quite those extremes the next time he brings the thunder. He said:

“Each time I’ve played the character and put the muscle on and put the size on, and then lost it for something else and played another character, there’s muscle memory, and I used to say it sort of got easier each time. This was particularly hard. I think because the target weight we aimed for was quite a ways above where I’d been before. We had 12 months when I was at home, just training and sort of, you know, puppeteering the body and manipulating and trying to like, ’Okay, we could try more swimming now or try more martial arts. It was a really fun exploration, but I don’t know that I wanna get that big again. But I was sort of… It was… Yeah, it was just exhausting. I don’t know, maybe I’m getting old, but things just started to hurt more.”

Thor: Love and Thunder Was Not A Mighty Hit With Critics

While Chris Hemsworth may have gone all out to make sure that Thor was as mighty as he could be inThor: Love and Thunder, when it came to audience and critic reviews of the movie, they were more around the level of “Fat Thor” then “Ripped Thor.”

Arriving with a lot of expectation behind it,Thor: Love and Thunderended up being a missed opportunity in many ways, with the focus seeming to be building up and delivering a number of humorous elements that sat uneasily alongside awasted Christian Bale as Gorr The God Butcher,a villain who really deserved more than he was given.

However, Thor will fight another day, and next time maybe he can really bring the thunder even if he is carrying a little less brawn.Thor: Love and Thunderis now streaming on Disney+.
