Liam Neesonis putting his skills to good use this summer, as not only is he busting bad guys as Frank Drebin Jr. inThe Naked Gun, he is also delivering a PSA that wants to save comedy from extinction. What a guy!
When mentioning the name Liam Neeson, many moviegoers immediately begin thinking about broken bones, broken noses, broken windshields, and plenty of other broken things covered in blood while a bereaved or aggrieved character played by the iconic Irish actor stands over a scene of utter carnage. Now, he is about tolord over a different type of carnage inThe Naked Gunas he takes over the franchise from the late Leslie Nielsen, and, with the help of Pamela Anderson, looks to reboot the slapstick comedy for a new generation. Before that though, he has a very important message to get out to audiences in the name of comedy.

‘The Naked Gun’s Outrageous Popcorn Bucket Is Going to Have Leslie Nielsen Fans Shouting, “Nice Beaver!”
‘The Naked Gun’ marketing is giving a knowing nod to one of the franchise’s most-quoted lines.
The hilarious PSA begins with the text, “Every single hour in Hollywood, a comedy script is rejected. Fewer comedies came out last year than ever before. And soon, none will come out at all.” A montage of familiar comedies is played at the same time as this, includingAnchorman,Mean Girls, andHorrible Bosses, and Neeson really wants you to make sure that comedies like these continue to be made in uncertain times. in the video, Neeson says:

“Hi, I’m Liam Neeson. Every passing year, more and more comedies go unmade. Unseen and unquoted. And for the price of one movie ticket you may help rescue the comedy, and in the process, you’ll get to share a small, or a laugh, and even the occasional groan with the people in your very own community. Right now there’s a comedy movie that needs you. Please, buy a ticket right now, so our children and hopefully their children too, can one day enjoy watching a comedy in the theater."

‘The Naked Gun’ Is Back – With Liam Neeson Doing More Than Riding Shotgun
Although many will say, “They don’t make them like they used to,”The Naked Gunis coming on August 1to remind you that from time to time they certainly do make them exactly like they used to. While Neeson’s ability to carry a comedy franchise was never in doubt – he has proven more than adept at it in the past – first reactions to the movie have been overwhelmingly positive and suggest that as his tough action movie roles wind down, a new venture could be just beginning.
Following in Nielsen’s footsteps,The Naked Gunhas been described as “deliciously stupid” and in “the true spirit of the Leslie Nielsen movies.” Others say it is “smart and hilarious from beginning to end,” while some have noted thatNeeson is a very capable successor to Nielsen. Expect a full suite of reviews sometime next week when we will get a fuller picture of what critics really think about the movie, then we can ignore them if they don’t like it.
