After you finish setting up yourPlayStation VR 2, you may notice that the screen is still blurry or that some games/controls are not as responsive as you had hoped. That’s because there are additional setup steps that the tutorial doesn’t really tell you about that are sure to improve your PSVR 2 experience tenfold.

Most, if not all, of the settings that need to be adjusted can be accessed from the Accessories menu or the System menu, but players need to keep in mind that some menus and options won’t appear unless they turn on their PSVR 2 console first.

10Boundary Display Sensitivity

This one is accessible from Settings > System > Accessories > PSVR 2 > Play Area. It can be set to low, medium, or high, and its significance honestly depends on the game and your preferred play style.

In games like Cosmonious High, where you can play while standing or moving around the room, a high boundary sensitivity can interrupt your interactions with characters and items, so it’s better to set it to low. In other games likeResident Evil Village, it’s better to set the feature to medium or high so it won’t interfere with your high-octane combat gameplay.

9Tracking Support

This is hidden in the same Accessories location, but under the “Other” menu. Turning it on may not seem like much, especially since it adds a frame of icons to your TV display (not the VR display), but it sometimes helps in games that depend on theeye-tracking features.

The PSVR 2 simply projects what’s on the TV screen onto your headset (which can be overwhelming for the VR, depending on the size of the TV), so this feature can be thought of as resizing the image to the proper height and weight dimensions, making it easier for the VR to track what’s on the screen.

8Output 120 Hz Video To VR Headset

you’re able to find this under Accessories > Cinematic Mode > Video Output. This ties into the earlier bit about PSVR 2 projecting what’s on your TV screen, as this feature allows you to directly circumvent your TV’s output quality and project 120 Hz images regardless of your TV (or HDMI output) type.

What you need to know here is that this feature isn’t accessible by default (it will appear grayed out at first), so players will need to go to Settings > Display and Video > and change 120 Hz output from ‘automatic’ to ‘off’ so it can be adjusted. (HDR output won’t be turned on unless your TV supports it).

7Tracking Camera Calibration

Available in Accessories > VR Headset. It hasn’t even been a month since the PSVR 2 was released, but some may be experiencing a few grips where they’re looking at something, but the VR screen doesn’t move along.

Holding down the function button might solve the problem and reset the screen to where you’re looking, but if you’ve bumped the headset anywhere, it might affect the calibration you did when you first set up the console, so it’s better to recalibrate the camera again from here (you’ll notice an orange tint during the quick calibration process).

6Function Button Assignment

Also found under the VR headset menu. This feature is the closest the PSVR 2 comes to the mixed reality of theMeta Quest, and it allows you to click a button to toggle between the game display and viewing your surroundings (in case you can’t grab/see your sense controllers).

However, players might not realize that the headset has a built-in microphone, and that their voice is reaching other players in online sessions, so they can customize this button and change its purpose to mute the microphone when pressed, thus solving this problem.

5VR Headset & Controller Vibration

The VR headset’s vibration is turned on by default, but it can be a headache for some gamers, so it’s better to press the PlayStation button on your Sense controller and turn it off from the pop-up quick settings if you get tired of all the shaking.

The vibration intensity of the PSVR 2 Sense controllers is tied directly to your DualSense controller, and you can adjust both of their vibration intensities from Accessories > Controllers (General) to weak, medium, or strong, or just turn it off entirely. There’s also a separate function for the trigger effects of the L2 and R2 buttons, but it only applies if the microphone is muted as mentioned above — otherwise it will be set to weak.

4Custom Button Assignments

Not a necessary feature, but it depends on the person. If you open the Controllers' menu from Accessories, you will find that you’re able to customize and remap any PSVR 2 button and even switch the functions of the left and right analog sticks.

The Sense sticks don’t allow you to see your surroundings only like in normal games, but they can also let you skip some steps instead of walking, which can be more comfortable depending on whether you’re a right-handed or left-handed player.

3Sidetone Volume

Accessible from Sound > Audio Output, but grayed out until you put on your PSVR 2 headset. This option allows you to hear other sounds in the room (as well as your own voice) through the PSVR 2’s built-in microphone.

This is helpful when you don’t want to be too disconnected from the real world and want to hear your other family members or computer voices while you play. Combined with the function button, you may seamlessly switch between playing and doing other things without taking off your headset.

2Screen Size & Brightness

Two of the most important and often overlooked options in the PSVR 2 Accessories menu. These are the options you might need if you decide to use your PSVR 2 as a movie display console instead of buying a bigger TV.

There’s also an option to lock the audio position so that the audio source doesn’t move with the floating virtual 2D screen, in case you want to move your head but don’t want the audio to fade or lose quality.

1Avoiding Motion Sickness

This is a bit of physiological rather than technical advice from a pharmacist (me), but console sessions with the PSVR 2 (especially withGran Turismo 7) can make you really dizzy after a short time. Taking chamomile or ginger pills, or a non-sleep-inducing antihistamine such as Dramamine, Benadryl, or Antivert an hour before playing can help with the dizziness and stomach discomfort.

you’re able to also turn on Reduced Motion in Accessibility > Display and Sound to reduce the motion of the TV screen. In addition, chewing peppermint gum while you play is a great way to relieve motion sickness because menthol has a cooling effect that helps relax your stomach muscles.
